About the cattle at morning ride ranches

A true artisan beef, Piedmontese beef is one of the healthiest beef in the world.  At less than 1% of the cattle currently raised in the US, Piedmontese beef is more lean than salmon (see below) and one of the most tender varieties of beef. Dishes and recipes from top chefs using Piedmontese meat has won numerous awards for flavor, tenderness, and quality around the world at various cooking competitions. Here at Morning Ride Ranches, cattle are 100% grass-feed, and are antibiotic, steroid, and hormone free. The ranch began in the early 1880s when Shingletown was known to produce shingles throughout the nation. Apple tree orchards, grazing and flood irrigation were a part of life and are still some of the current ranch activities. 

As a sustainable endeavor, the water comes from the Lassen Peaks watershed and the cattle have a gorgeous 200 acre ranch to roam and eat the natural grasses of the area. With several artisan springs and creeks running throughout the ranch, it is an idyllic spot. Using rotational grazing and eating native grasses, the operation is low-stress with cutting-edge animal science. 

Morning Ride Ranches certifies its entire herd to verify the animals are Piedmontese.  Our management practices include DNA testing to verify heritage and voluntary third-party auditing. This ensures the health and tender qualities in the beef that we sell and we are transparent.  Our certification activities are through the North America Piedmontese Association (www.piedmontese.org) . 

Piedmontese beef originates from the Piedmont region in Italy , located in the northwestern area of Italy. Many of the local cuisine has it roots from the Piedmontese beef, with its rich flavors and tenderness. 

According to NAPA, ranchers imported the first Piedmontese cattle to North America in the mid-1970s.
